Our Story

Finescale’s optical precision and far-reaching improvements are the result of years of research and prior comparator manufacture.

Finescale was developed by George Francis Gray, considered one of the top design engineers in the field of optics and instrumentation. While at General Electric, he laid out and equipped the first Consulting Engineering Laboratory for use by Dr. C. P. Steinmetz. He was the Signal Corps representative with the Naval Consulting Board (headed by Thomas A. Edison) and National Research Council (headed by Dr. R. H. Millikan) in World War I and spent 25 years in the microfilm business.

Finescale Magnifying Comparator is another invention to which Mr. Gray has unqualifiedly attached his name and reputation.
